Brisebois to come back to Montreal?

According a report up at TSN, Bob Gainey has offered Patrice Brisebois a 1 year, $700,000 contract.

Do we not remember his tenure in Montreal? It was a love-hate relationship at the best of times. I recall an entire season of booing when he finished a -31 in '00-'01. I recall him being booed off the ice in his final season, even though he actually put up some respectable numbers. To look at his career, you'd say he's had an up and down one. One year he can go out and be a -30, the next he can come back and be a +20, to me it's a reflection that he is completely dependent on those around him. One thing can be said for him, he's good for 30ish points as long as he can get into 70+ games.

I...I just can't believe that Gainey would dip into the past like this. Why not Stephane Robidas? Or like...some new guy that hasn't been a Hab before. Or what happened to the idea of giving roster spots to some of the kids? Unless Brisebois has developed a thick skin since leaving (not likely) he's likely to have the same tumultuous relationship with the fans and not be happy (a la Sergei Samsonsov) and will generally not play well because of that. Personally I would advise him not to come back for his own sake, but at the same time if nobody else is going to pay him, it's a small sacrifice for $700,000. Also, I was happy that Souray and his turnovers and lack of defensive presence had moved on, I didn't really want to have to deal with watching this. It could be a long year of seeing Brisebois be beaten everywhere on the ice.

Brisebois was boed off the ice because he was making 4 million/year.

@ 700 K he's a great deal, if he signs. Don't doubt that for one sec!
